How to Measure Your Child for a Custom Mini-Moto Suit
Learn exactly how to measure your child for a custom mini-moto racing suit. Ensure maximum safety on the track with our expert sizing guide.
When it comes to kids' motorcycle racing, safety is the absolute top priority. Whether your child is riding pit bikes, mini-motos, or go-karts, throwing them in a generic, oversized suit is incredibly dangerous. Loose armor shifts during a crash, completely negating its protection.
To ensure your child is fully protected, they need a racing suit that fits like a second skin. Here is your step-by-step guide to measuring your child for a custom Lionstar Mini-Moto Suit.
What You Need Before Starting
- A soft, flexible cloth measuring tape (do not use a metal builder's tape).
- Have your child wear a tight-fitting base layer or t-shirt and shorts.
- Ensure they are standing up straight, relaxed, and barefoot.
Step 1: Chest Measurement
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your child’s chest, keeping the tape horizontal. Ensure the tape is snug but not constricting. Have them take a deep breath in and out to ensure the suit will allow for comfortable breathing on the track.
Step 2: Waist & Hips
The Waist: Measure around the natural waistline, typically just above the belly button.
The Hips: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of their hips and buttocks. A proper hip measurement ensures the suit won't restrict their leg movement when throwing a leg over the bike.
Step 3: The Inseam (Crucial for Peg Clearance)
Measure from the highest point of their inner thigh (the crotch) all the way down to their ankle bone. This dictates the leg length of the suit. If this is too short, the suit will pull tightly when they bend their knees on the footpegs.
Step 4: Arm Length (Shoulder to Wrist)
Have your child hold their arm out with a slight bend at the elbow (simulating holding handlebars). Measure from the outer edge of the shoulder bone, down around the bent elbow, to the wrist bone. This guarantees the CE-approved elbow armor sits perfectly over the joint.
Why Custom Sizing is Worth It
Kids grow fast, and it can be tempting to buy a suit two sizes too big so they "grow into it." Do not do this. Over-sized suits will bunch up, and the elbow and knee sliders will rotate away from the impact zones during a fall. If you want to buy bigger suit then go just one size up not two sizes up.
At Lionstar Leather, we specialize in Kids Mini-Moto Gear. Our suits are engineered with stretch panels to accommodate minor growth while keeping the CE-approved armor securely locked in place.
